Zarina Holmes, Co-Founder & Creative Director
Zarina Holmes
Education: An MA in Design from Middlesex University, London researching on brand extension. A BA in Graphic Design, with Advertising major and Photography minor. In 2008 I retrained as a documentary filmmaker.
Real education: Childhood boredom and amateur geography. Growing up in Borneo and small towns in Malaysia with nothing much but imagination. No internet, just public libraries and nature as my escape. After school I helped my father sell coconuts. Both experiences made me become highly creative and enterprising.
I started out as a visualiser for advertising agencies in Kuala Lumpur. Then progressed to be a multi-disciplinary designer in Manchester and London. I specialised in F&B and travel industry before pivoting to tech and startups.
I love photography and storytelling. In 2013, I set up City Academy photography department. In 2020, we launched Warna Workshops in Hammersmith & Fulham for creative entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Favourite patches: Pop culture, books (especially manga) and photography. I’m also a professional lifestyle photographer and have published two photo books on sustainability subject.
Salina Christmas, Co-Founder
Salina Christmas
Education: A double degree in English Language and Literature, a BTEC in Multimedia and Graphic Design and an MSc in Digital Anthropology (University College London, 2011).
Real education: Being a rep for the National Union of Journalists between 2007 and 2011 during the recession, selling sportswear and wearables whilst building GLUE Studio, learning to row without the body to do so and training for triathlon without the ability to swim.
Started out as a writer, progressed to tech and science journalism, moved sideways to marketing, went in and out of payments between 2003 and 2018, and now runs GLUE.
Favourite patches: Music (reviewed punk gigs and concerts), books and life sciences.
